My Cultural Background


My grandfather was born in east Germany and grew up in east Berlin. in the late 1940's 
Germany was splint into two parts after world war 2. He fled to New Zealand in the early 1960's.

Every year for Christmas we design and make a gingerbread house to eat. 

We open some presents on Christmas eve. 

We eat German foods my favorite German food is schnitzel.

We celebrate Easter and Christmas.

I also am part french. My father's family came from France, they were some of the first people to arrive in New Zealand settling in Akaora. 

We eat french food my favorite french food is croissant. 

My grandmother is part of the Libeau family.

I am a member of the Alliance Française.

    It is so exciting to see how well you embrace your German culture! You mentioned how your grandfather came from Berlin in Germany and then fled to New Zealand in the early 1960’s. Was your grandmother from Germany as well, or did they meet each other once he was in New Zealand?
    Designing and making a gingerbread house and eating German food are both great ways to celebrate your culture.
    What other German foods do you eat apart from schnitzel?
    France is such a beautiful country, and it is amazing to hear how not only are you part French, but your family were some of the first French people to arrive in New Zealand!
    That is such a valuable piece of information, and I really do hope you treasure it forever!
